Shriram Mandale, an art director of an advertising firm in the city and one of the persons who conceptualised the event, says, Last year, we tried out the concept in Pune, where it was quite a success. This year we were looking for an interesting way to help these schools and decided to implement the same idea in Mumbai.
Chauhan, principle of the Victoria Memorial School, is quite eager to see how the event will unravel. She says, Of our 110 students, about 70 students only were selected for this art fare. They have had no training as such in art and were simply asked to think of something that appealed to them and create an impression of how it made them feel on paper.
Parents, family, music and friends were some of the common thoughts that inspired some of these artworks.
Priced at Rs 11,101 each, 80 artworks will be displayed at Tao Art Gallery from December 11 to 13. It hopes to raise around Rs. 8,88,080. More interestingly, the money raised from the sale of these paintings will go to the aid of the students directly.
Mandale explains, For every painting sold, 80 per cent of the money will be transferred to a bank account set up in the name of the child. This money will go directly for their future benefit.
Both schools will be receiving the remaining 20 per cent of funds. Chauhan says, This money will be used only for purchasing essentials for our students.
