Kanpur University students to have 17-digit UID numbers
KANPUR: To provide information on students, Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University here will be providing 17-digit Unique Identity (UID) numbers to all its pupils taking admission this academic session.
“Every student will be provided with an UID number. They will also have a web page which will contain all significant information about examinations, attendance, results, co-curricular activities,” Vice Chancellor of the University Prof Harsh Kumar Sehgal said.
Students will be able to log onto their respective web pages using their 17-digit unique identity numbers and the passwords assigned to them.
The web page will display the student’s name, personal information such as address, telephone number, date of birth and parents’ names as well their photograph.
Marks obtained by the student in each examination and their rank will also be updated at the web page, along with any achievements made at the University, Sehgal said.
Students would be informed about the updates via sms service on their mobile phones, he said, adding this new system will come into force when the session begins in July this year.
Sehgal said that this new system is based on India’s UID project named Aadhaar. However, instead of containing elaborate information about the student, the UID system of the University would contain only their educational records.
Information available through this system cannot be tampered with as the master server of the system will be in the premises of the University itself, he said, adding such a system will prevent people from using fake mark sheets of the University.
