Bangalores biggest public library could see its membership shoot up with a little help from unique identification cards
Thousands visit Bangalores biggest public library everyday. Some thumb through newspapers, others do research. But only a few hundred actually check out books- the result of a membership rule stipulating proof of address in the form of official government ID.
The unique identity programme, Aadhaar, could soon help citys libraries turn a page.
There are currently about 150,000 library members in Bangalore.
Deputy director of the State Central Library, N.F. Nagesh says UIDs could increase its membership numbers.
One group the cards wont help though, is students. With university cards at hand, theyre good to go.
