UID enrolments to begin at banks soon….Prajakta Chavan
Enrolling for the Unique Identification (UID) number is no longer going to be a time-consuming and daunting task.
In a bid to make the enrolment process much simpler, a number of banks including the Bank of India, Union Bank of India, Central Bank and IDBI are going to set up walk-in facilities for registration in designated branches.
Central Bank has already introduced the facility at 18 branches while 15 branches will start the facility soon.
We have around 80 branches in and around Mumbai. We will soon start the facility in all branches. We are trying to expedite the process for applicants enrolling in our branches. For this, we have deployed a person who will guide applicants in filling up UID forms and during verification, said Anil Khadke, general manager of Central Bank, Mumbai zone.
IDBI Bank, which has 60 branches in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) will start enrollments by next month.
We will introduce the facility in all branches for customers and people from neighbouring area, said a bank official who requested anonymity.
Bank of India has placed the machines for enrolment in government offices including the Customs office, income tax office and Mumbai University’s Fort campus.
We will also begin the enrolment process at our branches as soon as we acquire more machines, said Arjun Ghugal, general manager (inclusion), Bank of India.
Union Bank of India has started begun enrolment centers within their premises or where space is insufficient, at spots allotted by local authorities.
