ZP clerk held for accept Rs 2,000 as bribe
PUNE: The anti-corruption cell (ACB) on Friday arrested a clerk in the Pune Zilla Parishad (ZP) for accepting Rs 2,000 as bribe from a jawan of the Maratha Light Infantry, Belgaum, for issuing a no objection certificate (NOC) to his wife.
The suspect has been identified as Kailas Shankar Ghadge (54) of Khed. Acting on a tip-off, the ACB team, led by assistant commissioner of police (ACB) Sanjay Naik Patil, laid a trap outside the ZP education department and arrested Ghadge. A complaint in this regard has been lodged by Naik Anand Ramchandra Gosavi (31) of Maratha Light Infantry training centre, Belgaum.
According to Naik Patil, Gosavi’s wife, Gangubai, is a teacher with the Thane ZP. Since she was pregnant, Gosavi wanted her to be transferred to Pune.
On September 16, the state education director had passed the orders of Gangubai’s transfer from Thane to Pune. “Meanwhile, the Thane ZP had demanded an NOC from Pune ZP,” Naik Patil said.
He said that Gosavi contacted head clerk Ghadge for the NOC on October 20. Ghadge demanded Rs 5,000 as bribe for issuing the certificate. Gosavi gave him Rs 1,500 in advance. Ghadge asked him to come after seven days to collect the certificate. “When Gosavi went to Ghadge on Thursday, Ghadge again demanded money. Gosavi then approached the ACB and lodged the complaint,” Naik Patil said.
He said the ACB team, including police inspectors B R Patil, Prakash Shinde arrested Ghadge while accepting Rs 2,000 from Gosavi. Inspector Shinde is investigating further.
