Talathi caught taking bribe
PUNE: Officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested a talathi from Junnar while accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from a farmer for the 7/12 extract of his land. The suspect has been identified as Shahaji Damodar Sonawane (50) of Junnar. A complaint in this regard has been lodged by Gurunath Yashwant Chavan (35), of Junnar, with the ACB.
According to assistant police commissioner Sanjay Naik Patil (ACB), the complainant, Chavan, had purchased a tract of land in Junnar. He had contacted Sonawane for the registration of his land and to obtain the 7/12 extract.
However, Sonawane demanded Rs 40, 000 in order to give him the extract. “On Tuesday, Chavan approached the ACB and lodged a complaint against Sonawane,” Naik Patil said. A trap was laid at Sonawane’s office and he was arrested while accepting the bribe.
Police inspector Prakash Shinde (ACB) is further investigating the case.
