CAUGHT RED-HANDED
SNDT univ accountant held for bribe
Mumbai: An accountant with the SNDT University in Santa Cruz was caught
red-handed by the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Friday while accepting a
bribe of Rs 5,000 from a professor for clearing her salary file.
The accountant, Suresh Nair (42), will be produced before the special
anti-corruption court on Saturday. According to the ACB, the lady
professor had left the university as lecturer in 2002 to join another
college. When she resigned from the university, her salary for a month was
pending. The professor said she had approached Nair for her pending salary
to be released. But Nair paid no heed. Last week, Nair demanded Rs 7,000.
She bargained and got the amount reduced to Rs 5,000. The professor then
sought the help of the ACB.
