Sanitary inspector nabbed for taking bribe
AHMEDABAD: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials nabbed a sanitary inspector for demanding a monthly bribe of Rs 200 from a sanitary worker in Western Railway on Monday.
According to officials, the accused used to accept bribe from a number of employees. It was in exchange for assurance of no harassment and turning a blind eye to rules related to attendance and work.
According to ACB officials, Vasudev Vaghela, a resident of Railway Colony, Sabarmati, lodged a complaint against the sanitary inspector Joitaram Solanki on Sunday.
“He mentioned in his complaint that he was harassed for five months on one count or other. When he went to work on Saturday, Solanki confronted him and asked him to be regular. He also threatened him of dire consequences if the bribe was not paid. At first, Solanki demanded Rs 500 every month,” said LK Chauhan, inspector of ACB.
However, the deal was struck at Rs 200. As per the arrangement, Chauhan and two witnesses were present at Solanki’s office near Sabarmati railway station on Monday when Vaghela approached him and gave the money. Solanki was nabbed red-handed. According to officials, more cases will come to light during questioning.
