Rural police inspector and driver chargesheeted in bribery case
PUNE: The state anti corruption bureau (ACB), Pune on Tuesday filed a chargesheet against inspector Rajeshree Sushilkumar Gandhi, then posted at the Pune rural police, and her driver Abdul Latif Abdul Razzak Shaikh of Ramtekdi in a bribe case.
ACB deputy superintendent of police Ajay Kadam filed the chargesheet before special judge J D Kulkarni.
According to the chargesheet, Gandhi had raided a hotel on Sinhagad road owned by lawyer Kishore Patil and his wife Prajakta on charges of illegally selling liquor on August 27, 2007.
The chargesheet states that Gandhi had demanded Rs 40,000 from the hotel manager Sunil Tanpure and employee Sunil Vernekar for not taking action.
The ACB had arrested Gandhi for asking Shaikh to accept bribe of Rs 20,000 on her behalf in the presence of panch witnesses at the crime branch office of Pune rual police after Patil had registered a complaint.
The chargesheet has listed 32 witnesses in the case.
Gandhi and her driver were charged for committing the offence under sections 7, 12, 13 (1) (d) read with 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
