Ration clerk in ACB net
NAGPUR: Sleuths from the state’s anti-corruption bureau (ACB) nabbed a junior clerk of the rationing department red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 150 on Wednesday.
Ishwar Chauhan, posted at Itwari zone office, was arrested during the action initiated after a victim complained of harassment at ACB office. Chauhan had been demanding Rs 200 from the complainant for effecting a change of name on the ration card.
Dinkar Ninawe, who had embraced Islam in 1992, wanted to change his name in the records of the public distribution system and get a new card issued. ACB sources said that Ninawe wanted to include his Muslim name, Mohammed Ashik Ninawe, on the ration card.
Chauhan wanted a bribe to help Ninawe change the name without any hassles. Sources said that Ninawe had already paid Rs 50 and was supposed to make the remaining payment. Deputy superintendent of police Abhay Panhekar, attached to ACB, led a team to trap Chauhan. The cops netted Chauhan accepting the amount in the presence of witnesses.
Further investigations are being conducted by senior officials.
