PWD officer held on bribery charge
An assistant engineer of Public Works Department ( PWD) was arrested on bribery charges by the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Friday.
The accused, who is at present working on deputation in the health department in Jaipur, had taken a bribe from some contractors in Alwar and was on his way to Jaipur when he was intercepted by an ACB team which seized Rs 85,000 from his possession. Search at his residence in Kirti Nagar near Tonk Road was on till late on Friday night.
According to the ACB, the accused officer, Govind Narayan, was supervisor of Jaipur, Dausa and Alwar districts.
“We had received complaints about him recently and on Friday, we got a tip-off that Govind Narayan took bribe from a contractor. So a trap was laid,” said an ACB o fficer.
“He was returning from Alwar in an Indica on Friday when he was intercepted by a team under the supervison of ASP Vishnaram Vishnoi on Malakheda Road. He was checked and we found Rs 85,000 in his possession,” said the officer.
Govind Narayan claimed to have got the money from some contractors. “He claimed the contractors had asked him to hand over the money to someone in Jaipur. But the contractors categorically denied giving money to Govind Narayan,” said the officer.
When he could not give a satisfactory answer, he was arrested and taken to Alwar for interrogation. “He has been booked under Prevention of Corruption Act,” said the officer.
An ACB team raided his residence in Kirti Nagar. “We have not yet come across anything concrete during the raid, but investigation is on,” said ASP (ACB) Asaram, who was supervising the raid.
