Mumbai: Battlelines between two major energy suppliers may soon become more sharply etched in the suburbs as around thousand customers of Reliance Infrastructure (RInfra ) Ltd from Bandra-Khar have firmed up plans to switch to Tata Power Corporation.
Aftab Siddiqui,chairperson of 33rd Road Advanced Locality Management (ALM),said,At least 30 cooperative housing societies,which have more than 1,000 members had a meeting on Oct 6,where they decided to discontinue the services of RInfra.
Residents have alleged that the power tariff of RInfra has increased considerably.Shiv Malhotra,a resident of Daulat Baug,36th Road,said,Bill amounts have been fluctuating a lot.One month,I got a bill of Rs 5,500 while for another month I was dispatched a bill of Rs 13,000.
A senior RInfra official said,All meters comply withpermissible accuracy range specified in Central Electricity Authority (Installation and Operation of Meters) Regulations 2006 and are of BIS standards.All the electro-mechanical meters are replaced by electronic meters in compliance with the judgment issued by Appellate Tribunal for Electricity and it is mandatory going by CEA directives.
Replacement of existing meters with the new electronic ones has upset residents.Tata Power officials are going to compute the deposit amount for prospective consumers on the basis of their past usage.
MERC-appointed agency IDEMI has certified that all electronic meters installed by RInfra are within the accuracy range specified by the CEA,the official added.
