MUMBAI: An administrator appointed by the deputy registrar of co-operative societies to take control of a residential building in Mira Road was caught red-handed by the Thane Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from the society members.
Sunil Bagwe was appointed the administrator of Rashmi Enclave Society located at Shanti Park in Mira Road a month ago. “However, the accused had allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 from the society members for handing over charge to the newly formed managing committee. He was arrested while accepting Rs 30,000 at the society’s office on Thursday afternoon,” said Thane ACB assistant police inspector Vilas Chougule.
According to officials, the society was taken over by the deputy registrar after the managing committee was dissolved about six months ago for non-submission of the mandatory M-20 bonds under Section 73 (1AB) of the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies Act. Bagwe was then appointed the administrator to take over the functioning of the society.
“After Bagwe’s appointment a month ago, a new managing committee was formed following an election. However, Bagwe was delaying the process of handing over charge to the new members as he wanted Rs 50,000 to complete the procedure,” an official said. Secretary A Pandey then approached the ACB following which a watch was kept on Bagwe. On Thursday, when he was accepting the cash, he was caught.
