Now, pipelines will have alarm system
MUMBAI: The BMC seems to have finally learnt a lesson. Following the Malad incident on February 12 when a water tunnel got ruptured due to the digging of a borewell, the civic body has decided to go the extra mile to secure new pipelines.
“Besides applying a steel coating to water tunnels, the BMC will also fit an alarm system to ward off any attempts to tamper with the pipelines,” an official said.
“If someone tries to tamper with the water tunnels, the alarm will go off and we will come to know of it,” said additional municipal commissioner Anil Diggikar.
The matter came up in the general body meeting of the BMC on Tuesday.
