Four arrested in KDMC engineer’s graft case……Pradeep Gupta
MUMBAI: The Thane anti-corruption bureau (ACB) has arrested four persons in connection with the Sunil Joshi graft case. An executive engineer with the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), Joshi was caught in February while accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from a developer for issuing sanctions for the construction of a sports club in Kalyan.
The four arrested have been identified as Sanjay Joshi (Sunil’s nephew), Namdev Gaikar, (advocate) Sandhya Aroti and Abhijit Chavan.
The four accused had prepared a forged document and submitted it to the court to prove that Joshi’s illegal assets of more than Rs 2.5 crore were legal.
The ACB officials have arrested all four accused under sections 420 (cheating), 466 (forgery of record of court), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 469 (forgery for purpose of harming reputation and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the IPC.
According to an ACB official, investigation revealed that the documents prepared and submitted by Joshi’s relatives and lawyers in the court were forged.
This was second time that Joshi has been arrested for corruption. He is currently out on bail.
