Civic officer caught taking bribe
PUNE: Officials from the anti-corruption bureau ( ACB) on Friday arrested an assistant encroachment inspector with the Sahakarnagar ward office and an unskilled labourer while they were allegedly accepting Rs 700 as bribe in return of some goods seized during an anti-encroachment drive.
According to assistant commissioner of police (ACB) Sanjay Naik Patil, the complainant, Gokul Subhash Satav (29) of Somwar Peth, runs an aluminium ladder manufacturing unit. On September 7, Satav’s employee Pravin Chandane was selling ladders on the pavement at Maharshinagar when Abhimanyu Arjun Gade (39), seized his goods as part of an anti-encroachment drive.
“On September 15, Satav approached Gade and was told to pay Rs 2,000 to get the ladders back. After negotiations, Gade agreed on Rs 700,” Naik Patil said. Gade asked Satav to bring the money to Tilak Road ward office on Friday. “At the ward office, he asked Satav to hand over the money to Ganesh Mukund Nagvade (40). The police, who were already present there, arrested them red-handed,” he said.
Police inspector Bharat Bhosale, B R Patil, police constables Sitaram Dhavade, Datta Kamble and Yogesh Pawar were part of ACB’s investigating team.
