CBI raids former I-T chief痴 7 properties across state
The CBI on Saturday conducted raids on seven houses and offices owned by Indian Revenue Service officer O G Ganvir in connection with a corruption case against him. Ganvir retired as the I-T commissioner in July.
The CBI officials said Ganvir had set up the Ganpatrao Ganvir Charitable Trust, in the name of his father. 展hile in service, Ganvir demanded money from those who approached him for work, claiming it to be a donation for the trust. Our information is that he has collected Rs 50 lakh in 2001-2009,鋳 an official said. The trust operated from Ganvir痴 Churchgate flat and had his relatives as trustees.
Searches revealed that there were 16 bank accounts in his name as well as the trust. The CBI has freezed the bank accounts, which had Rs 75 lakh. Ganvir had purchased several properties at Churchgate, Santa Cruz, Thane and Nagpur. The CBI also raided the trust痴 building in Bhandara.
