CBI officer arrested for taking bribe
Mumbai: The anti-corruption wing of the CBI on Thursday arrested an officer of the EOW of the same agency while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a witness in a fraud case.
Sub-inspector Deepak Kumar (32) of the EOW was picked up from his Ghatkopar office quarters while accepting the amount—the first instalment of the total Rs 50,000. Kumar was the investigating officer in a case of a Rs 4-crore fraud, where Punebased Jayesh Forging allegedly duped Central Bank of India. “The company was accused of availing loans for the purchase of new machinery. The money was used to buy old machinery and part of the amount was diverted for other purposes,’’ a CBI official said.
Kumar, who had probed the case, allegedly threatened to arrest the complainant and demanded the sum.
Joint director CBI (western zone) Rishi Raj Singh has appealed to inform corruption complaints against central officials on 9833400669, 22884433, 22884466, 22021490 and 22882794. TNN
