CBI books bank managers for Rs 6cr fraud
NAGPUR: Sleuths of Anti-Corruption unit of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently booked two managers of State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur in city along with four builders for allegedly misappropriating funds to the tune of Rs 6 crore.
The CBI sleuths conducted searches at 11 places including Bilaspur in Madhya Pradesh. The CBI cops collected several incriminating documents from the offices and homes of the culprits. More than 25 bogus accounts under fictitious names have come under CBI scanner.
The CBI, following an enquiry, registered offences against erstwhile Central Avenue branch manager Laxman Das. Harsh Gupta, the present officiating branch manager, too has been made a co-accused in the case. Mukesh Meshram of MK Developers, Avinash Dhomne of MK Constructions, Nadeem Bashir Khan of AK Developers and Kuldeep Gulbange of Star Enterprises have also been booked in the case.
CBI sources said that the alleged fraudsters conspired with the bank officials to siphon off huge amount as housing and other property loans. The maximum fraudulent transactions were made in financial year 2009-10. CBI sleuths have come across cases of multiple loans from different banks, including the State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, being taken for the same projects. The same properties have been mortgaged to different banks simultaneously.
It is also learnt that the culprits had opened several accounts showing companies or enterprises that existed on paper alone. There were loans in the names of customers who did not exist. The CBI sources also said that the fraudsters had created false documents of non-existent properties that they submitted to banks transactions to get loans.
CBI is likely to grill several other builders who have figured in the fraud. The sleuths are also probing the roles of other bank officials to find out if they too were involved.
