Civic Body Will Brand These With A Common Logo And Signage,Like Any Other Supermarket Chain
Mumbai: Municipal markets, which wore a dismal, depressing look, will soon be relegated to history. For,the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is ready to spruce up 51 municipal markets with auniform design,an attractive logo and signages to show directions. The intention is to brand municipal markets under a common banner Tip-Top Municipal Market.
The civic body has prepared a common logo, which will be displayed at the entrance of the markets with market signages and symbols. In the next one year,we plan a common brand for municipal markets after they are repaired. We need to give it a distinct identity. If you visit any chain of supermarkets, you will see that they have their own brand. We intend to do that for municipal markets as well. After the process of repairs is complete, our focus will be on its upkeep and maintenance, said Manisha Mhaiskar, additional municipal commissioner.Standing committee chairman Rahul Shewale has approved a logo with a combination of fish and vegetable symbols for the markets.
The markets which were in a dilapidated condition were not repaired for more than 10 years. The focus will also be on hygiene to attract consumers. There will be toilets connected to sewer lines and a channel made specially to drain water in all markets. There will be naming boards, murals on walls and roofs of the markets to lend it an arty look, said L S Vhatkar, city engineer.
The markets that will be given a facelift on an urgent basis are located in Khar,Borivli and Malad.
