ACB traps GMCH clerk, her husband
NAGPUR: In a trap set by the anti-corruption bureau (ACB), a female clerk of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and her husband, who was posing as a doctor, were caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 2,000. The arrests were made from GMCH Road on Wednesday evening.
The couple, 34-year-old Shakuntala and Anil Saneshwar (38), are residents of PWD Quarter in Rajabaksha. From the last 14 years, Shakuntala has been working as a clerk in accounts department at GMCH while Anil is a property dealer. The trap was set by DySPs Rajesh Dudhalwar and Sanjay Khandekar under the guidance of ACP Sandeep Diwan.
According to the cops, on January 14, the brother-in-law of the complainant, MBA student Ganesh Gadekar, suffered a brain haemorrhage and died while undergoing treatment at GMCH on January 15. The deceased, Raju, had a LIC policy but to get the claim on the policy, one needs certificates B and B1 from GMCH.
Raju’s wife Mira filed an application with Shakuntala to get the certificates. Shakuntala kept delaying the process, and then told Mira to consult with a doctor to get the certificates on time. Her husband Anil posed as the doctor and demanded Rs 3,000 when Mira contacted him. After bargaining, he finalized the deal in Rs 2,000.
On Wednesday morning, Anil called Mira to the GMCH gate to take the money. Suspecting something, he changed the place to the mortuary and then at the last moment called Mira near a private hospital at Medical Square.
Two bike-borne youths came to take the money and tried to speed away after taking the cash, but the waiting ACB sleuths, constables Shyam Dubey and Shekhar Dhok, nabbed them. On interrogation, the cops came to know that Shakuntala would often give Anil’s number and introduce him as a Dr Meshram working with GMCH.
