2 posing as drug inspectors held
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials nabbed two fake drug inspectors, by sheer chance. The cops had laid a trap to nab corrupt government officials but ended up cornering the fake inspectors.
Jignesh Maniyar, owner of a pathology laboratory in Saijpur, had filed a complaint with the ACB on Monday. Maniyar had alleged that he was being harassed by two drug inspectors from the drug commissionerate, who were asking for bribe to issue a licence.
Based on the complaint, the ACB officials laid a trap for the corrupt officials on Monday. The trap proved successful and two persons — Pranav Jani along with an accomplice — were caught.
After arresting them though ACB officials realised there is a twist in tale. Neither of the two were government employees! “They were impostors posing as drug inspectors. This is a clear case of fraud and impersonation. We have filed a complaint in this regard at the Sardarnagar police station and handed over the two to the cops for further investigations,” said ACB officials.
Maniyar’s story is also quite interesting. He was approached by the two persons, who introduced themselves as drug inspectors. They insisted that to operate his laboratory Maniyar should have a licence from the drug commissionerate too. Maniyar got suspicious because pathology laboratories are not under the purview of drug commissionerate. When they pestered him for Rs 15,000 bribe he approached the ACB, leading to their arrest finally.
