TMC chief trains guns on illegal hoardings ………Nitin Yeshwantrao I TNN
Thane: Thane municipal commissioner Nandkumar Jantre has launched an offensive against illegal hoardings and large cut-outs of politicians in the area. Civic officials have registered an offence against 53 people, including 22 political activists, who had put up advertisement boards without the permission of TMC authorities.
Thane residents have pointed out that they not only damage the architectural beauty of the area, but are also a traffic hazard. People said that political parties put up huge advertisements and civic officials remain silent spectators. In fact, a month ago, traffic was halted by activists of the Sena and the NCP who hurled abuses and clashed on the streets, protesting the derogatory posters that sought to ridicule their respective leaders, said Nitin Deshpande of citizens group FACT.
Officials have registered cases against all those responsible for illegally occupying space and the use of electric poles. The highest number of offenders have been found in Naupada area.
