policy. This policy keeps the future firmly in mind.
Guided by principles of environmental responsibility, TNPL manufactures and markets papers using materials and processes that help minimize waste, conserve resources and protect our Earth’s bio diversity.
Its unfailing commitment to clean production techniques with minimum pollution load stands out as a bench mark in the industry.
NPL has established a state of art effluent treatment plant based on activated sludge process, the best of its kind in the country. The treated effluent totally confirms to the statutory standards. It’s so good that there is a huge demand for this effluent water to irrigate arid and barren land near the mill. TNPL has extended effluent irrigation to 1500 acres around the mill where one can see lush green fields of sugarcane,paddy and eucalyptus
TNPL is also credited with the unique innovation of recycling waste into wealth. The usage of defines the commitment towards its vision of sustainable development. Bagasse is known to be the most eco-friendly renewable resource for papermaking.
TNPL uses about eight hundred thousand tonnes of bagasse every year instead of wood, thus actually avoiding the felling of trees in about 30000 acres of forest land every year.
As part of its commitment to the protection of the environment TNPL has installed 21.75 MW of capacity in its wind farms in south Tamil Nadu. TNPL’s plan is to target an internal net zero carbon trade,provide green energy to the state grid using renewable resources to the extent it has to rely on fossil fuels. TNPL is also increasingly relying on for its fuel requirement.
Community development
TNPL regards the communities around the mill as a major stakeholder and accordingly identifies their needs and concern areas. In the year 2006�07 several community development initiatives were undertaken in the field of health, education, career and infrastructure development areas around the factory.
� A training center has been set up to train rural women in tailoring and embroidery.
� A Computer Training Centre with 20 computers has been set up to train the rural youth in operation of computers.
� Contributed funds for constructing an Infectious Diseases Ward at the Government Head Quarters Hospital, Karur, and an Isolation Ward and other facilities at the Government Hospital, Velayuthampalayam.
� Number of medical camps were conducted in the neighboring villages.
� Provided infrastructure facilities in the nearby schools and improved the roads covering the TEWLIS area.
� Unemployed youth trained to take part in competitive examinations.
� Provided financial assistance to needy and 1 deserving students to pursue higher studies.
� Infrastructure created to improve public health and sanitation in the neighbourhood.
