1. What is the need for / value of rating NGOs? (conceptual reasons as well as from your personal experiences i.e. in case they were rated, how would it have helped you?)
I think rating is a must it would have helped me as i have nt much knowledge about the various types of ngos . and the only way i get acquainted is by hearing names from people so you hear of cry , akansha … these are popular while i dnt know so mnay ngos that may be doin very well …. so if there was a web page or a center tht rated ngos … it would be great to know who is real an d who adhers to standards …. and who is good at what …. what
is each ones core…. .
2. On what different criteria should / can NGOs / nonprofits / charities / trusts be rated?
This is a diffuclt task coz like in buisness here products our people so it is diffuclt to rate them coz change is slow … but i would suggest to rate on meeting deadlines of prjects .
fulfilling promises made to donors.
They should also be rated on the basis of ….. how well are they catering the problem …. that has been taken over by them
Level of creativity in theirprogrammes and project implementation .
Making best use of available resouces : how well does the ngo utilise its own resouces .
Transparency shud be a key factor when rating most ngso dnt even have their …. balance sheet open for people to view. and also documentation
3. Who should rate them? i.e. backgrounds of such organisations or individuals don’t have much of idea . but definately some organisation that would nt have a bias.
4. Which NGOs in your (subjective) opinion are outstanding ones in
Mumbai?
I think akansha is great in involving people and making best use of them
…. and very wel handled .
Hamara foundation mumbai central, Aarambh in Vashi a small ngo but i think is outstading in its performance.
