Development body plans e-waste plant, 16 firms attend pre-bid meet
Sixteen interested companies attended pre-bid meeting on Thursday for Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authoritys (MMRDA) project to build an electronic waste processing plant at Bhiwandi.
The MMRDA also extended the last date for the submission of bids by a month, from the earlier December 28 deadline, on the request of the participating companies.
With more than 20 tones Maharashtra is the top contributor of e-waste generation. More than 11 tonnes are contributed by Mumbai alone, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Ashwini Bhide said. We were happy to meet 16-strong representation from companies keen to develop the e-waste project.
The MMRDA will also attend to the queries and suggestions made by the participated companies.
In October, the MMRDA had issued a request for proposals to set up an electronic waste processing plant at Bhiwandi, after a consultants report termed the project as moderately viable.
The MMRDA has obtained 9 hectares of state government land at Bhiwandi, of which it plans to carve out 4 hectares to set up the plant. The plant is being planned to handle the processing of a minimum of 15,000 metric tonnes per annum.
