Energy Conservation – CFL
I had sent your message to our Prakruti colleague, Kanubhai Kamdar who is working on providing electricity to Adivasi ashram shalas in remote places where we urbanites will never
allow electric supply to be made available. His first innovation was inaugurated on 15 Aug this year in a village Karav within 100 km of always energy overconsuming
Mumbai. He is now on a visit to the USA and is expected to return in December.
By the way did you notice in Mumbai everywhere the glaring immroal exhibition of power waste during the Ganesh Festival just over to be followed now with Navratri, Diwali and
Christmas-New Year? India is shining! Mumbai is shining too now that it has officially decalred to ape Shanghai!
You and Kanubhai can come in touch. He can explain technical base and the strategy for popularising both our idea to take electricity to villages and energy conservation. Kanubhai,
Jainsaheb is a IT wizard who tutored me into sitting before this dumb box and was once the head of Mafatlal IT extension.
As you know, the Maha Vitaran (MV), a splinter of the earlier MSEB now oprating independently has embarked on Akshay Prakash programme developed by a simple MSEB linesman, B B Pawar, popularly known as Diwanji, based on self discipline and use of more efficient gadgets like CFL. This programme works in 2100 villages in Nashik and
neighbouring areas. MV claims a saving of 400 mw while increasing the supply period from 8 to 23 hours a day.Diwanji has become very popular in villages. Diwanji went upto Matric, the same measure for knowledge that we passed through before SSC and HSC came in being.
He has to visit Mumbai every few days to meet his MV bosses. Last few months he invariabky meets us every time and often stays with us. For him this has become a mission
and moves freely amongst consumers. It would be interesting to meet him during his Mumbai visits after he has finished official work and show his work to interested friends.
MV has a scheme of supplying CFL on instalment spread over (if I remember correctly) 10 months. MV is promoting CFL in its distrribution areas. Neither Mumbai Island City nor
Sububah area falls within MV hence we do not have any idea.Even incandescent lamp replacement by CFL in MV area has remained on paper as there is no Diwanji to pursue the concept over Maharashtra area.
The bankrupt Maharashtra Govt is pursuing generation of additional 4500 mw which will cost Rs. 20,000 crore on paper and 40,000 crores (if we are lucky) with generation
period being delayed from 3 to 10 years and yet we shall always feel short of electricity. Only a person like Diwanji can bring about real change.
We need to place before consumers comparative figures of electricity consumption say from incandescent to ultraviolet tube light to CFL to LED before the people to show economy
in consumption of electricity for achieving the same luminocity in a specific area (lux). Then people will know that zero watt bulb does not mean zero consumption and 40w tube light means consumption of 62.
I was telling Diwanji to get the actual figures and then we launch on a comprehensive campaign. Do we have frineds within ourselves to take up this issue – first of preparing comparative data and then to going out in the field convincing cosumers
on benefits of CFL etc? Fuel cell?
Last few meetings with Diwanji has made him take interest in sustainable agricultre (SA). He feels that SA can reduce energy consumtion. He has started talking in villages and has seen
encouraging response from farmers.
If our freinds are interested we can request Diwanji to talk with our friends to help launch fullfledged campaign. Best wishes.

dear kisan bhai,
i am writing to you about the mails about energy audit.
some time back i ahd sent you a write up on compact cfl. you had marked it
one of our friends to study and contact me.
unfortunately that did not happoen.
allthough i do not have the resource to do a formal audit,i am fully
convinced that using my ideas, we can overcome all tha energy problems
within months and do not need to create new generating capacity.let us
think of the push that our gdp will get.
any one who reads my recommendations, is welcome to talk to me.
let us not go thru ‘analysis paralysis’. let us ACT. we should not make a
‘vidharba’ of this issue where we keep talking or exchanging mails but the
farmers keep committing suicide.
kind regards
