To
Shri Ashok Ganguly,
Central Board of Secondary Education
Shiksha Kendra, 2 Community Centre,
Preet Vihar, Delhi – 110092.
Sir,
It is brought to you kind notice that Apeejay School and some other schools in Noida (U.P.) which are affiliated with you have subjected both parents and children to interview for admission in nursery classes in the forthcoming academic year 2007-08. I think that several other schools outside Delhi affiliated with you may also be resorting to subjecting parents and children to interview for admission in nursery classes in the forthcoming academic year of 2007-08.
You are well aware that Honble Delhi High Court on 10th May, 2006 in the case of PIL (L. P. A. No. 196/2004) have passed an interim order We make it clear that no school shall call children or their parents for interview without permission of this Court. It is submitted that this order of Delhi High Court is technically not applicable to the schools outside Delhi.
The Honble Delhi High Court by a subsequent order dated 4.9.2006 has constituted a committee headed by you to suggest an alternative admission criteria for admission of tiny tots in nursery classes by unaided private schools and the committee is presently deliberating upon the issue.
It is submitted that the entire Nation has condemned the practice of interview of tiny tots and their parents for admission in nursery classes by the schools. It is unfortunate that despite the orders of Honble Delhi High Court and strong public opinion against holding of interview of tiny tots and their parents by the schools, most of the schools outside Delhi are resorting to such practice. I have brought to your notice these facts while discussing with you the issue of admission criteria on 27.09.2008. However, I thought, it would be appropriate to make a formal request by this letter to direct all the schools affiliated with you to not to resort to the practice of interview of tiny tots or their parents for admission in nursery classes.
I, therefore, request you to kindly issue a circular immediately directing all the schools all over the country affiliated with you to do away with the evil and anti child practice of interviewing tiny tots and their parents for admission in nursery classes.
With regards
Ashok Agarwal
