Sub: RETF meeting on Sunday 11-03-2007 Join RETF
Dear Friend,
Right to Education Task Force (RETF), a unit of Social Jurist, is a group of volunteers working for the realization of every childs right to quality education and for abolition of child labor in all its forms. The lawyers, doctors, professionals, CAs, Journalists, students of schools and colleges, social activists and concerned citizen etc., are becoming RETF volunteers, visiting municipal schools and the communities and collecting information regarding infrastructure and quality of education in these schools. There are 1819 MCD, over 100 NDMC and 6 Cantonment board run primary schools in Delhi, catering to more than 10 lakh students. Most of these students belong to the lower strata of society. The standard of education in these schools is in very bad shape.
That besides municipal schools, there are about 1000 Delhi Govt. run schools catering to about another 10 lakh children. The situation of availability of basic amenities and standard of education in these schools also needs serious attention.
The experience of RETF during the past one and a half year is that the frequent visits by the volunteers in municipal schools have brought some improvement in these schools. However, a lot is still to be achieved. The mechanism of frequent visits by the volunteers has been acknowledged as a working mechanism ensuring positive results. Therefore, this mechanism has to be strengthened further. As a step in this direction, it has been proposed to form 12 municipal zone wise committees of volunteers to undertake the movement further as well as enrolling more and more volunteers from their area. At present the number of volunteers is small though effective, but more and more volunteers are needed to make the campaign more effective.
In order to deliberate upon the various issues, to share experience and to chalk out further plan of action, a meeting shall be held on Sunday, March 11, 2007 at Gandhi Peace Foundation, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg, near ITO between 10 am and 1:30 pm followed by lunch.
You are requested to kindly attend this meeting in time and make it success. You are also requested to circulate this letter amongst your friends and relatives who may be interested to volunteer themselves for the ongoing campaign on improving the Govt. schools in Delhi.
Thanking you
