CSR activities:
SKF India takes great pride in initiating various activities that reflect SKF’s sustainability drive. The company continues to contribute towards Nachiket Balgram – an orphanage that provides educational facilities to 55 children up to Class IV. The organization strives to better the lives of these children by providing them with basic amenities such as beddings, raincoats, academic and sports material, and food grain for the orphanage. In addition to this the company also continues to Udyogdham – a shelter for children of leprosy patients.
Sports present a world of opportunities to children- a belief strongly supported by our Group. SKF India is proud to have partnered with the Gothia Cup, a platform that allows children from across the world to showcase their talent in football. Earlier this financial year, children from municipal schools in Chinchwad, Pune, participated in the football matches and finally the winning team will now represent India at the Gothia Cup in Sweden in July 2007.
SKF India has also instituted a sports academy for children from underprivileged families. The sports academy provides a platform that allows the children to direct their energies into a constructive and productive activity. It is the children from this institute that have emerged as winners in the Gothia tournament and are all geared to contend for the magnificent Gothia cup. Commenting on this initiative one of the parents, Sanjay Nikte, a tailor by profession, very proudly said, ” The game of football and SKF Sports Academy have changed the life of my child and that of my family. He has become vary disciplined, focused & honest. I am very grateful to SKF for shaping my son’s life and for giving us a new hope ‘. Coach Rajendra Panhalkar, the motivating force behind these young talented boys, said, “” It gives me a sense of satisfaction and pride to associate with the noble cause of SKF Sports Academy under
In keeping with our theme of a sustainable future, we have recently started another initiative – Rain Water Harvesting at our factory locations in Pune and Banglore.
Environment
Being environmentally and ecologically conscious has always played a central role in our day-to-day operations. SKF was very early in issuing a corporate environmental policy back in 1989. SKF was also among the first multinational companies to receive a global ISO14001 certification, covering 63 units in 17 countries.
A global ISO 14001 certificate requires all sites within a company to maintain the same standard and performance level in the environment management system. If one site fails to meet the standard and requirement, the whole company group is at risk of loosing its entire certificate.
Community development :
The community where we operate in represents our future market and workforce. They are our potential customers, employees and suppliers.
At SKF, we are committed to environmentally sustainable and socially responsible growth. We develop products and solutions that contribute to better use of energy and place less strain on the environment we live in.
Not only that, we want to make the world a better place. Our commitment to the future generations is the basis for SKF active engagement in local development, training initiatives and sponsorships of activities around the world.
Social policy was established to provide SKF units worldwide a consistent and corresponding approach on community projects, aiming at physical as well as personal development of less privileged individuals or societies.
All units are required to provide regular updates to SKF Group on their commitment in helping the local communities. Information is shared throughout the organisation for replicating best practices.
