MUMBAI: Following Right to Information (RTI) query filed by a Worli resident, Vinod Desai, the BMC initiating proceedings against the Siddhivinayak trust for digging a paver-blocked road to set up bamboo poles as preparations for Angarkhi Sankashti celebrations earlier this month.
Desai noticed that between January 25 and 31, 65 places on S K Bole Marg near the temple had been dug up to set up a bamboo barricade through which devotees were supposed to head for the temple. Desai had a few questions for the of the G North ward office: Did the BMC give permission to the trust to dig the road and put up the barricade? If yes, on what conditions? Was there any follow-up to check that the road had been dug, abiding by the permission? According to officials, no such permission was granted to the trust, so the other two questions were redundant. “We did not give permission to either dig the road or erect the barricades. The Siddhivinayak Ganapati Mandir Trust dug the road at several places to facilitate the movement of devotees during Angarkhi Sankashti,’’ said the reply. “We will ask them for compensation.’’ A ward official told TOI, “We have already sent a notice to the trust.” But trust chairman Subhash Mayekar said he hadn’t got any notice. He said, “We always restore the roads we dig. The decision to put up the poles is not ours, but we do it on the instance of the police.” |
