Post offices to apply O&M paint, McKinsey makeover ……..Our Bureau NEW DELHI
THE age-old post office is set for a makeover. While global consultant McKinsey & Co has been engaged to suggest revamp measures, the government has appointed ad agency Ogilvy & Mather (O&M) for a branding exercise. Termed Project Arrow, the initiative involves turnaround of 500 postoffices in two phases.
Phase I, covering 50 branches, is likely to be over by August while phase II would be completed by the year-end, minister of state for communication and information technology Jyotiraditya Scindia said. O&M has also been ask to devise a new logo and a slogan for India Post. The project is divided into four parts: branding, technology improvement, infrastructure development and human resource-related reforms.
The ministry is also planning to issue smart cards to the poor in Orissa under the national rural employment guarantee scheme (NREGS) to facilitate effective implementation of the scheme. The card would work as passbook for workers and would be readable with the help of special mobile phones to be available at post offices. Workers would be able to withdraw money with the help of the smart card.
