Mechanism just cant cope with 9000MT of garbage generated daily
The city’s waste collection machanism costing Rs800 crore every year and comprising 21,000 workers and 7,000 collection points falls woefully inadequate for the 9,000 metric tones of garbage (including debris) generated every day. Apart from the fallibility of the civic administration and the poor civic sense of the citizens, officials admit that movements, such as the advanced locality management (ALM), put in place by the BMC10 years ago, are not working optimally. they say only 30 percent ALMs are working well. Net result: there is garbage spill on every street. Some areas like Kurla, Govendi, and Koliwada pose year-round challenge
Fifty surroundings are breeding grounds for diseases like flu and respiratory disorders
