1. Mainly, the rating would help afffirming the autheticity of the NGO. Personally, I would feel comfortable if I knew that my contribution would be put t o direct use. I have been donating a set amount every year to ‘Vanwasi Kalyan’ run by Barve Sir, one of my school time teachers. He has taken up on him to see to it that all ‘adivasi’ children get a decent education besides other objectives. So I know what he is doing and I am very comfortable and confident that he will apportion the money absolutely perfectly. Thats the sort of confidence I would expect.
2. The NGOs I feel should be rated on:
a. Type of projects undertaken to be reviewed.
b. Completion to be established though not necessarily at all times.
c. Profiles of members to be authenticated.
d. Number of projects on hand v/s number of members for the NGO
e. Ability of the NGO to communicate the work done
3. Really difficult for me to answer. Perhaps the transparency in their affairs and the communication thereon seems the best bet. But yes, rating is necessary to give a
good credibility. Perhaps I will get back to you on this.
4. Very frankly, I am not associated with an NGO in Mumbai as I reside in Pune. I am a part of Sneh Nagrik Sangh and Vanwasi Kalyan. The former is a civic forum and the latter is a proper NGO. I would rate ‘Vanwasi Kalyan’ very very highly.
