It is really a great idea to have accreditation of NGOs.
I feel that there are plenty many people who think to participate in progress of society by
1) Donation of money/property/or utilities
2) By donating the time and skills (Highly skilled professionals)
3) By working as volunteer in free time
4) Companies want to participate thru CSR.
But only one question keeps on coming to them is will this be used properly and will that reach the targeted groups. Companies may ask their department to check on organizations and satisfy their queries before participating but Individuals have no such provision. So they will go by publicity organizations get or Fund raising abilities of the NGOs. Not necessarily these skills really reflect in their working ant individual gets the feeling of being cheated. Overall result is these dissatisfied individuals form their opinion about entire charities and prevent few more from donating by sitting their personal EXPERIENCE.
If Karmayog can take the responsibility for accreditation I am sure many more philanthropic minds will realize their dream to participate and see that reaching to targets.
A list of accredited ngos with their profile will help them select the organization and target as well.
Also there should be a catagorisation of NGOs like
1) funding NGOs 2) reaching NGOs. Also should be profiled as per their 1) dependency on funding.2) Self sufficient to run their running projects and take grant/donations for new projects.
Accreditation also should look into the expenditure pattern i.e. administrative expenses/money used for development or reach money.
This really will be a major task but will do a lot of good to philanthropy and society as large
