Mangarol block, Junagarh District, Gujarat
The Aga Khan rural support program is promoting rooftop water harvesting to ease the attar problem in salinity affected villages of Mangrol block in Junagarh district of Gujarat. Located along the coastal belt of Saurashtra region Junagarh district faces the problems of water scarcity and increasing salinity in available groundwater . AKRSP initiated a this programme in 1995.
The first spell of water is utilised to clean the rooftop and thereafter rainwater is collected and used for human consumption. For storing rainwater tanks 20,000 litre capacity is used. Average cost of rooftop after harvesting structure is around Rs.18,000.
