The City looks forward to participate in the sixth World Hospice and Palliative Care Day on October 9
World Hospice and Palliative Care Day (WHPCD) is an international day for advocacy and increasing awareness in palliative care. Every year on the second Saturday of October, Palliative care institutions and hospices from all over the world join hands to celebrate the WHPCD.
This year on October 9, the Palliative Care Services, Tata Memorial Centre, will be celebrating WHPCD with many other participating agencies in keeping with this years theme sharing the care. Amongst the volunteers will be S L Raheja Hospital, a Fortis Associate, Jaslok School of nursing, Bombay hospital, School of nursing., Terna School of nursing, School of nursing, Tata Memorial Hospital, D.Y Patil School of nursing, JJ School of Arts, NSS volunteers, many NGOs and individual volunteers.
The celebration will begin with a walk from Shivaji Park to Tata Memorial Hospital between 4pm and 7pm. Members and representatives of all participating agencies will join the walk. The walk will end at the TMC auditorium with a formal function where prizes and certificates will be distributed. The posters created by the students of the JJ School of arts will be on display on the WHPCD.
At five vantage points, street plays will be performed by nursing college students. Posters created by students of the JJ school of arts were judged and all were found to be excellent and they will be displayed during the walk and as well as at the Tata Memorial Centre.
In order to create awareness about the importance of palliative care, which emphasizes an improved quality of life for a patient with a life limiting condition; in the weeks preceding the WHPCD, flyers, hoardings and posters will be distributed and displayed on BEST buses and in Taj Hotels. Radio Mirchi will also help spread awareness for this noble cause.
