Health insurance for urban poor on the cards
CASHLESS TREATMENT The Delhi government aims to finally roll out its cashless health insurance scheme for the urban poor. The programme, designed exclusively for advanced tertiary care facilities, has been adapted from an existing scheme in Andhra Pradesh. Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia said: “It is one of the most important projects.” Under the scheme, a cover ranging from Rs 30,000 to Rs 1,50,000 will be provided. The preliminary bidding shortlisted nine insurance companies. Also, the disease trends in the NCR have been studied over to arrive at a list of 200 ailments. “Procedures for renal and heart transplants, cardiovascular diseases, implant of stents and pacemakers, dialysis procedures, trauma surgeries and cancer treatment will be covered,” said an official of the Health department. Cancer treatment has been highlighted, and surgical procedures for head and neck, breast,cervical, lung and GI tract are covered.
