Payam-e-Shakir released by Disha IndiaExcelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Jan 18: Payam-e-Shakir a book of Urdu ghazals and poems written
by Amit Koul (Shakir) a third semester engineering student was
released at a simple but impressive function here today.
The function was organised by Disha India a NGO. The function which
was attended by prominent people from different disciplines was
chaired by Girja Koul, an eminent writer who also released the book.
Speaking on the occasion, P K Koul chairman Disha India highly
appreciated the budding poet. He said his maiden effort has been
remarkable as he has succeeded in carving out a niche for himself
among the poetic circles.
Mr Jai Krishan Bezan and Prof. M K Bhan through their papers made the
critical appreciation of the book.
Mrs Girja Koul while speaking on the occasion expressed the hope that
this young poet will touch the heights in future.
Mr Koul while highlighting the objectives of Disha India said the
organization is working to improve the overall socio -economic
conditions of the less privileged sections of the society. The
organization also aims to upgrade the educational and technical
standards of the community students.
He said the Disha India will work towards the self reliance and
empowerment of the community and in this regard a vocational training
centre have already been established at Purkhoo Camp.
This Centre has been set up with the aim of developing technical
skills among school drop-outs and other unemployed women who are
unable to pursue higher education.
He said the organisation proposes to set up a computer centre in near
future which will be developed into a full fledged technical
institution.
Mr Koul in an appeal urged the philanthrophist organisations to come
forward in taking up the programmes launched by the organisation
forward.
The programme was compered by Sandeep Koul who also recited some
ghazals from the book.
