BUTTERFLY PARK
Numaligarh Refinery Limited has vowed to maintaining ecological balance along with its main mission. As a commitment towards this end, NRL initiated an eco-friendly venture and proposed to establish a Butterfly ecosystem in the vicinity of its township. The proposed area for the Butterfly Park will cover around 15 acres of land surrounded by small hillocks, adjacent to the enchanting Deopahar hills, the proposed area is saturated with the plantation of about 60,000 plants endemic to North East India. An ecological hot spot, the north-east is already a natural home to a dozen of endangered butterfly species. But a vast area of this untamed land is yet to be tapped and Butterfly Park will offer the unique opportunity to explore the verdant beauty of northeast with its rich flora and fauna.
SMRITIBON
The immense medicinal benefits of herbal plants are known to all. Numaligarh Refinery located strategically near the rich forest belt of Kaziranga National Park, Deopahar Hills and Nambor forest is bestowed naturally with a wide variety of medicinal plants, which are available in our vicinity. With a view to extract the medicinal benefits of those plants a herbal medicinal garden has been initiated which is named as “Smritibon”, located within the Butterfly Valley of refinery township. As the name “Smriti” signifies “Rememberance”, the noble idea of commemorating the memories of our beloved ones, by way of planting herbal plants in their names has been mooted. Mr. Gunaram Khanikar, a famous herbal medicinal expert of the country has extended his valuable suggestions and constant guidance for the development of this garden, which has helped in a big way to cover almost all the herbal medicinal plants available in the locality. More than five thousand herbal plants with seventy-five species have so far been planted in the garden. It will help in preserving rare species of herbal medicinal plants, which, otherwise are going to be extinguished.
