Yesterday Senior Counsel Shyam Divan appeared and
intervened in the Supreme Court hearing on Noise
Pollution on my behalf, to oppose the Notification for
15 days extension of the Loudspeaker deadline upto
midnight.
The intervention of Muslim groups for relaxation for
early morning azaan was rejected as the Court re-itereated that religion was
not a ground for violating
Noise Rules.
The Court clarified that loudspeaker use in Silence
Zones even in the daytime would not be permitted in
line with the earlier Order (dated September 2003) of
the Bombay High Court.
The judgment on the hearing has been reserved and is
expected in a day or two.
