Nov 2005 : Streehitakarini – assist underprivileged women (Have FCRA)
Streehitakarini (SHK) SHK believes that for a woman to lead a Healthy, Free and Full Life, she has to have education, accept family planning as a way of life, and participate in income generation. According to SHK, the transformation of women begins with non-formal education. These trained and motivated women become the backbone of programmes. More than 100 women from the backward localities of Mumbai not only work for this cause but also function as members of Streehitakarini. Their sense of ownership in these programmes leads to the development and betterment of their own lives, thereby gaining self-confidence as well as respect within their community. SHK runs a clinic for women and children, a family health centre, a pathological laboratory and a dental clinic The SHK Nutritional Center supplies nutrition to 10 centers with 200 children at each centre (below six years of age) for 300 days in a year. They conduct kindergarten classes in the morning. SHK imparts health education and conducts training classes for health workers. SHK also conducts various vocational courses for sewing, beautician and mehndi application, making pearl jewelry, flower making, fabric painting, screen-printing, laundry & ironing, and repairs of household small appliances among others. The other programmes that SHK is successfully implementing are the Integrated Child Development programme, Womens Health Book Project, Postal Mahila Pradhan Small Saving Scheme, Handloom Project, Mumbai Maternal Nutrition Project (MMNP) and De-addiction programme. SHK also has a library, a book bank facility among its various other educational initiatives. Contact person : Dr. Vijayalaxmi Taskar, President |
