Medical Services
A well equipped General Hospital with 369 beds and peripheral dispensaries render Allopathic/ Ayurvedic treatments, Specialty and Occupational Health Services to meet the medical needs of the employees and their family members and also the general public from neighbouring villages. Periodical Medical Camps including immunization camps for various ailments are being conducted for the benefits of people in the surrounding villages. During the year 2006-07, 12.15 lakh out-patients and 12,917 in-patients were treated in the NLC Hospital. Around 5000 children were administered polio vaccination during the polio immunization camps conducted during the year under review.
Reinforcing its commitment to the Society and taking affirmative corporate action, your Company has contributed Rs.25 lakh to the Cancer Institute, Adyar, Chennai to enable the Institute to continue its noble services in curing and combating the dreaded disease.
Education
For providing educational facilities to the wards of employees and others in and around Neyveli Township, your Company runs Schools with grant-in-aid from the State Government and also patron ises-Jawahar Education Society which also runs Schools and a College. Schools in Neyveli provide quality education to more than 36000 students. The schools achieve excellent results in various examinations and produce increasing number of meritorious achievers. Scholarship and Cash Awards Schemes are in operation for the wards of employees to motivate the student community for achieving exemplary performance. Your Company provide excellent sporting facilities and facilitate Neyveli students to participate in State/National level events, including Yoga, Swimming etc. Your Company continues to organise career guidance programmes for the students.
Post Retirement Benefits
In recognition of the past services of employees, your Company has chalked out schemes for reimbursement of Medical expenses and insurance cover for retired employees and their spouse under Retirees Health Insurance Scheme. Family Relief and Death Relief Fund Schemes are in operation forthe benefit of eligible dependent of the employees who die while in service.
Compliance under Disabilities Act, 1995
Your Company ensures compliance under the DisabilitiesAct, 1995. In this regard, supernumery posts were created in respect of 4 employees covered under the Act. These employees are treated on par with other regular employees in the matter of pay, allowances and other applicable benefits. Suitable provision/ modification is made in the working place to meet their requirements.
Re-habilitation Programmes
Your Company patronises Neyveli Health Promotion and Social Welfare Society (NHPSWS) which offers services for the benefit of physically challenged, widows and destitute. This Society runs a School for hearing impaired, provides computer training, artificial limbs and vocational training etc.
Your Company is also extending all assistance including Grant and infrastructure facilities in running the Sneha Opportunity School, a day-care centre for mentally disabled children run by the Neyveli Ladies Club. The School has a strength of 84 children and adopts a holistic approach towards providing individual attention and by training them in different skills like arts, crafts, weaving, carpentry, gardening, screen printing, doll making etc., to make them self�reliant and fit for earning their livelihood.
Peripheral Development
Your Company under the Peripheral Development Programme continues to meet some of the basic needs of the surrounding villages such as laying of roads, provision of potable water, building schools and community centre etc., under the direction of the District Administration. An annual budget provision of Rs.100 lakh is being made for such developmental programmes.
Contribution to Development of Women
NLC Chapter of “Forum of Women in Public Sector” (WIPS) under the aegis of SCOPE, is being patronised by your Company. This forum organises various programmes for the benefit and development of Women and also undertakes social projects for the benefit of downtrodden sections of the society.
Care for Environment & Ecology
With a view to maintain the ecological balance, your Company has been taking various steps. So far more than 17 million trees have been planted. Projects for continuous reclamation, afforestation, cultivation, integrated farming system, slope stabilisation, artificial lakes and rainwater harvesting ponds are being carried out scientifically and systematically, in addition to tree plantation and cultivation work in the mined areas. Water conservation measures like re-cycling of mines storm water for domestic purposes in the Township after treatment, sewage treatment, planned pumping of waterare being followed with commitment.
A modern automatic dust suppression system has been commissioned in both TPS-I & il. Installation of modern Dry Ash Collection System is in progress in TPS-I & II. Your Company’s commitment and its commendable efforts and performance in the sphere of environmental care and eco balance are being appreciated by one and all.
AWARDS
In recognition of your Company’s exemplary performance in Corporate Social Responsibility, SCOPE has, during the year 2006-07, conferred the meritorious award for Corporate Social Responsibility and Responsiveness for the year 2004-05.
Your Company has also bagged the “Corporate Social Responsibility Award” instituted by the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) for the year 2006.
SAFETY
Your Company continues to maintain safe environment in its work places and create safety awareness among its employees. Periodical inspection of production units is being carried out by the Central Safety Wing at Corporate level, apart from the Unit Safety Departments so as to ensure safety of the employees and also to minimise the chances of accidents. Intensive and Specialised training programmes were conducted for fire-fighters in the Company during the year under review.
VIGILANCE
To make the administration efficient, effective and transparent and to combat corruption, a multifaceted strategy covering areas of preventive, detective and punitive vigilance is continued to be adopted. Thrust is being given on preventive vigilance to create awareness among the employees to follow the prescribed rules and procedures. In order to ensure transparency in all transactions, your Company has brought out “Contracts Manual” containing the policy guidelines and the detailed procedures etc., to be adopted in finalising and awarding of Contracts. As perthe CVC guidelines “Vigilance Awareness Week” was observed in the Company from 6″‘ November, 2006 to 10’h November, 2006.
