SPJ SADHANA SCHOOL – JANUARY 2007 UPDATE.
For SPJ Sadhana School, the year 2006 closed on a happy note and 2007 also commenced on a happy note.
One of our Volunteers, Mrs. Krishnaben Toprani received the well-deserved B.J. Modi Foundation Award for Outstanding Volunteer on December 9, 2006 in recognition of her selfless service of 15years with us.
On January 17, 2007 received the Social Impact Award 2007, from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavans SPJ IMR, a National Award for creating a Livelihood for the Differently Abled
Thanks to the donation of 60 chairs, after the school reopened in Jan07 there was sufficient sitting arrangement in the class rooms so all the teachers and students could sit. Thanks to Jodi Lee & Members of CORVA, Columbus, Ohio.
Several students and teachers participated in the Marathon 07 held by Standard Chartered Bank. They took part in the dream run. The T-Shirts, which our students and teachers wore for the event, were sponsored by H.S.B.C. Bank. We are grateful to HSBC for choosing to run for us in the Corporate Challenge
The students of Grades I & II visited Shantivan on an educational excursion.
The students of Grade IV were taken to Khandala on an overnight educational excursion not just to experience sight and sound but also to learn to become independent and do things on their own, (under supervision) including personal hygiene.
Similarly, the Skills Enhancement class was taken on an outing overnight to Alibag.
26January2007 Our Republic Day : We had a special assembly on 25th Jan very beautifully presented by the Pre-Vocational Class. A slide show was presented, highlighting salient features of the Democratic Republic of India, with a stress on unity in diversity. Some students in various costumes made it look so real. Some classes were awarded prizes for their Clean Environment Projects.
The students have been educating their parents on garbage segregation and other ways of not polluting air, land and water to protect mother-earth.
Prof. Falik, his wife and Kala Doshi were the Guests of Honour at the much-appreciated function.
Prof. Falik of the International Centre for Enrichment of learning Potential (ICELP), Israel, spent the day with us in a workshop dealing with problems staff faced and helping them overcome difficulties faced in the Instrumental Enrichment (IE). We are grateful to him for his generous self-giving.
