Skywalks at Borivli (W) and Ulhasnagar (W) partially opened
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) threw open, partly, the skywalks at Borivli-W and Ulhasnagar-W for public. The 330-meter long and 4-meter wide Borivli-W skywalk arm runs from platform number one up to Raj Mahal Hotel on the Chandavarkar Road. And the 340-meter long and 7-meter wide Ulhasnagar skywalk arm runs from platform number one up to CHM College.
The Authority has opened these two skywalks partly considering various difficulties faced by commuters, especially the kids and not-so-young ones. The remaining two arms of the Borivli-W skywalk and 3 arms of the Ulhasnagar-W skywalk will be completed and opened shortly, said Ms.Ashwini Bhide, Joint Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.
While the Borivli-W skywalk total length 1380 meters will cost rupees 33.75 crores, the Ulhasnagar-W skywalk total length 828 meters will cost 29 crores.
The MMRDA has, till today, thrown open, fully, three skywalks at Bandra-E, Bandra-E extension up to Bandra Court and Kanjurmarg. The Authority has also already opened three more skywalks excluding the Borivli-W and Ulhasnagar-W at Mira Road-E, Dahisar-W and Badlapur-W.
The MMRDA is planning to construct in all 60 skywalks in the city of Mumbai and its Metropolitan Region.
