The Mumbaikar will be just a call away should he need any help during the ensuing monsoon as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has established 24-hour control rooms. The control rooms will help him steer clear through disaster-like situation, should there be one.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has established separate control rooms for the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro corridor, Chembur-Wadala-Jacob Circle Mono Rail corridor and other projects such as flyovers, widening of roads, skywalks etc. Besides establishing the control rooms, the MMRDA has also made sure that all the MMRDA run projects are on patrol 24X7.
The contractors have been asked to very strictly adhere to the safety measures. They are also instructed to stringently follow norms as far as the barricading, reinstatement of the damaged road work, clearing of the muck on the roads, disposal of the same etc. is concerned, said Ms.Ashwini Bhide, Joint Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.
The MMRDA will also ensure clear signage and lighting arrangements around all the sites. There will be more than 25 site offices that will remain connected with the control rooms, besides the patrolling teams, said Mr.Dilip Kawathkar, Joint Project Director (PR), MMRDA.
The information received by the central control rooms will be disseminated to the concerned site offices and the patrolling squads from where immediate relief will be provided wherever required. Each site office will be equipped with engineers and support staff besides the required machinery such as JCBs, Dumpers, vans equipped with labour, equipment, cold mix, carbon core etc.

Mumbaikars would be able to seek help from the control rooms on various aspects such as uprooting of trees, water logging, accidents, traffic snarls etc. The control room officials would also welcome information on unusual occurrences or impending dangers. The control rooms will work in tandem with Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, Traffic Police, BEST, Fire Brigade and other agencies.
