Thank you for skywalks, Mumbaikars tell MMRDA……….Ninad Siddhaye
Mumbai: With the citys skywalks facing one controversy after another, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) finally had reason to smile on Wednesday when the rains brought out the skywalks many uses.
On Wednesday, many Mumbaikars used the skywalks at various places making the officials a happy lot. They claimed they received many phone calls from pedestrians thanking them for building the skywalks that helped them manoeuvre around flooded spots.
Bandra resident Satish Malatpure, who works for Home department, said, Skywalks are proving to be an enjoyable experience as I neither have to worry about crossing the waterlogged roads nor about the open manholes.
Santa Cruz (East) to Santa Cruz (West) is a very long distance. But, with the connected skywalks, the journey has become comfortable. I do have to walk a bit, but with no hawkers on the way, the walk has become easy. Most importantly, we now do not have to bother about the muck-splashing cars, said Dhaval Shah, a Santa Cruz (East) resident.
Rachita Shiwalkar, a Kalyan resident, used to fear open manholes and facing the chaos caused by crowding cars and hawkers. Not any more. The Kalyan skywalk has freed me and many others of such worries, she concluded.
