Asst charity commissioner lands in ACB net
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Maharashtra police has arrested an assistant charity commissioner while accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from a litigant for favours in a case. The assistant commissioner, identified as Anil Shingane, was arrested on December 31,2010,while accepting the bribe in his office at Worli.
According to ACB,Shingane demanded the bribe from an advocate in connection with a land dispute in Pune. The advocates husband owns 11 acres of land in Maval,Pune.A third party has laid claim to the property claiming to be a trustee and a court case has been going on for some months now, said sources.
The first time the case was presented before Shingane was when he was assistant charity commissioner in Pune.He was posted at Worli last year.Shingane gave an order favourable to the advocate in the case on the promise of monetary benefits.Even as the third party appealed against the order in Bombay High Court and filed separate cases in two other courts, including with the current assistant charity commissioner in Pune,Shingane started calling up the advocate asking for the promised money.
Harassed, the advocate met Shingane and expressed her inability to pay at that moment.Shingane said that if she paid Rs 50 lakh,he would also help her settle her cases in other courts. He asked her to pay Rs 5 lakh as the first installment at the earliest. When the advocate did not find a way out,she approached the ACB.
The agency officials asked the advocate to apeak to Shingane again and fix a date for the payment. On December 31,the ACB laid a trap at Shinanes office and caught him redhanded while taking the bribe.
