South Mumbai’s heritage statues of prominent historical figures are not very well maintained and often blend into their suren blend into their surroundings. But if you take a minute to stop by them, you can rediscover forgotten chapters in the city’s history.
Did you know, for instance, that the 150-year-old Khada Parsi statue, dwarfed by the Byculla flyover, is a tribute to 19th century liquor trader Cursetjee Manockjee Shroff? Or that Dr. Accacio Viegas, whose statue stands opposite Metro Big Cinemas, was the man who first detected the presence of plague in Mumbai in 1896?
For World Heritage Week, we recommend a statue tour through Fort.
