An Informal meeting in Banda on Drought situation in Bundelkhand.
On 2nd Apr 09 UPVAN staff members visited Banda district. The visit was to get input on preparing proposal on “Civil society review of Govt. Policy/efforts for drought management in Bundelkhand Region of U.P”. There was participation of 8 member Organization.
Meeting on defining Strategies for Social Audit Program in NREGA.
Meeting was held on 25th April 2009 at UPVAN Secretary/ Office to discuss the experience of Voluntary Organization on social audit in NREGA and to develop Strategies for further actions. The meeting was attended by members of Vidyadham Samiti, Banda, Indian Rural Technology development Institute; Pratapgard, SSK, Sitapur & Upvan , Lucknow . The Purpose of the meeting was to discuss about the required activities and Processes in conducting Social Audit. The focus of the discussion was what social Audit process is and what are the Challenges in Conducting Social Audit.
Meeting Regarding Drafting of U.P State Policy for Voluntary Sector 2009.
The first UPVAN core group meeting was held on 27th April 09, to discuss the issues of implementing state policy for voluntary sectors in U.P., in which 11 persons participated. The state policy was discussed and its first draft was prepared. Format was also prepared for commission for voluntary Sectors. Sri Paresh Tiwari from VANI, New Delhi and Sri Puran Barthwal from Sambandh, Dehradun attended this meeting. Draft in Hindi on State Policy for Voluntary Sector has been prepared. UPVAN has proposed a policy for consideration.UPVAN would like to get suggestion on this draft policy from its readers.
UPVAN Executive Borad Meeting
UPVAN Executive Board meeting was held on 28th April’ 09 in which 9 members participated. The guidelines were issued on the recommend actions for selection of members. Also decision were taken for Advocacy Program implementation regarding Social Audit in NREGA & for Strengthening democracy through wide spread use of RTI Provisions.
The Case Study of Sidhauli District regarding Water & Sanitation.
On 2nd May UPVAN Staff members visited Sidhauli block, sitapur District to prepare a case study for developing a conceptm note on Depending Prop- people policy for safe Drinking water & Sanitation in Rural U.P submitted to WaterAid.
Uttrakhand core committee meeting on State Policy for Voluntary Sector 2009.
UPVAN acted as co-organizer in a meeting on State Policy for Voluntary sectors in Dehradun (Uttarakhand) held on 25th May 09 in which 21 persons participated.
Two Days Workshop on “Campaign on deepening Democracy through RTI“.
UPVAN has organized two days State orientation workshop on 29-30 June ‘09 at SSK, Lucknow in collaboration with ‘Kabir’, New Delhi. Its 101 member organizations were oriented on this issue to sensitize to rural youths & women folk.Mr. Gyanendra Sharma, CIC, U.P. was the chief guest. He emphasized that RTI ACT is for the people so its usages needs to be increased by common man. Mr. Manish Sisodhiya from Kabir, New Delhi Categorically viewed the need of taking this legislation for good governance at village, block & district levels.
UPVAN Secretary Mr. Ashok Singh motivated the participants for campaign and outlined future Strategy infield operation & follow-up.
